Once again, the Seventh Darwin International Guitar Festival will feature workshops and projects by many of the featured Solo Artists & Composers. This page will contain information on these events as it becomes available.

Saturday July 7th, 10:00am: The Guadagnini Project
As part of the Guadagnini Project, Western Australian Luthier, Simon Rovis-Hermann will present a lecture discussing the construction principles of Gaetano Guadagnini guitars and comparisons to the more modern instruments he is making today. Accompanying this will be a photographic display on the recreation of Adrian Walter’s original instrument. Read more.

Tuesday July 19th, 2:00pm: The Contemporary Ensemble – Interpreting the Avant Garde - Erik Bosgraaf
Erik will Bosgraaf will present an informative workshop exploring the challenges facing a contemporary ensemble when preparing new works for performance. Erik will also talk about the new work that he has been preparing for recorder and guitar by leading Australian composer Michael Smetanin which will be premiered at the Festival. There will also be the opportunity for ensembles to have works they are preparing or performing workshopped.

Saturday July 14th, 2:00pm: The Latin World - South American Music & Culture - Juan Monroy
A special addition to the lecturer series will be a talk by Juan Monroy, who is accompanying Carlos Barbosa-Lima. Juan has dedicated the last 25 years to the promotion of Latin American music and culture and will give Festival registrants and Darwin audiences a unique insight into one of the most significant musical forces that has shaped the classical guitar repertoire. Juan Monroy will also relate some of the many experiences he has had as an entrepreneur and arts manager in successfully promoting Latin American culture across the world for the past 25 years. Thursday July 12th, 10:00am: Staccato-Harmonic Duo-Tone: A new discovery in guitar tone colour - Le-Tuyen Nguyen
This lecture-recital reveals his amazing newly found duo-tone on the guitar.  Staccato-harmonic duo-tone is the simultaneous sounding of two tones on one string of the guitar; each tone with its own pitch, duration, articulation and distinctive tone colour.  Topics include method of production, notation, sound palette and analysis of compositional application for guitar music in his Nocturne (1996) and Fantasia (1999).
