A Festival World Premiere: Opera 'Semiramide' for Solo Guitar.
22nd March 2007
Of all the arrangements from operas which the Italian guitar virtuoso Mauro Giuliani produced,
the largest number are from Rossini’s Semiramide. First performed in Venice at La Fenice in 1823, it was an immediate success.
Giuliani first arranged the overture for solo guitar, in his own idiomatic and sparkling style. Fourteen other pieces are
of items from the opera which were mostly originally vocal music.
The 'Semiramide' arrangements for solo guitar will be performed at this year's Festival as part of the 19th Century
Summer Course by Izhar Elias.
