Sunset Serenade

One of the highlights if this year's Festival will be the concert of Australian chamber music to be held at the Territory Wildlife Park.

Located at Berry Springs, 60 km out of Darwin, the Territory Wildlife Park provides a wonderful natural setting as a backdrop for the evening's music. The Park is set in a large area of pristine bush where the emphasis has been on maintaining the natural beauty of the landscape and providing the perfect habitat for the native wildlife.

The evening will feature the premiere of a number of specially commissioned works including Darwin Samba by Peter Sculthorpe and new works by Elena Kats-Chernin, David Harris and Martin Wesley-Smith. These works have been inspired by the natural beauty of the Territory Landscape and will compliment perfectly the setting of this sunset concert.

The concert will feature performances by leading Festival Artists including Timothy Kain and Craig Ogden.

There will be the opportunity for Festival registrants to spend an afternoon at the Park before enjoying the evening's performance.

Facilities will be available to purchase meals and drinks before the concert.

There will also be special packages available, which will include transport to and from the Park, a guided Park tour, dinner and the concert. These packages will be available to full Festival registrants at a discounted rate.

The Guitar in the Americas

At this Festival we will continue our exploration of the guitar in the Americas with with three concerts featuring guitar and string quartet, guitar and flute and solo guitar.

Featured Festival artist Maximo Diego Pujol will for the first time in Australia perform a selection of his works for string quartet and guitar and the premier performance of a new set of songs for soprano and guitar with the Northern Territory University School of Music vocal lecturer Kathleen Banks. Maximo's music is permeated by the sounds and rhythms of the tango and there is no greater exponent of this music than this guitarist and composer.

Maximo will also present a lecture on the history of the tango illustrated by his own arrangements and original compositions. Attendance at this presentation is essential for all those who have an interest in this most evocative of musical styles.

Well know international performer Julian Byzantine will contribute to this series with performances of works for solo guitar featuring music from his recent recording.

The Adelaide based flute and guitar duo, Andras and Agnes Tuske will present a recital of South American
works including works by Piazzolla and Festival artist Maximo Diego Pujol.
