About Darwin
Darwin is practically brand new. Since 1974 when it was levelled by Cyclone Tracey, it has been remodelled as the ideal tropical capital, with wide tree-lined streets, inviting public buildings and hectares of landscaped parkland. It cultivates a relaxed outdoor lifestyle and has a youthful population of around 90,000 people. Situated on the edge of the Timor Sea, Darwin is closer than any other Australian capital to the rest of the world. That could be the reason why it has such a cosmopolitan range of inhabitants, with as many as 60 different ethnic groups represented.

Darwin is the starting point for excursions to the top of the Top End. To the north the colourful religion and art of the Tiwi Islands. To the south, the kaleidoscope of rainforest, plunge pools, termite mounds and cycads of Litchfield National Park. To the east, the waterfalls, wetlands, and wildlife of Australia's own Kakadu National Park, also the untramelled beauty of Arnhem Land and the sailing and game fishing playgrounds of the Gove Peninsula. With all this Darwin has something for everyone. More information.
