| Marion
Schaap is a graduate of Wim Pfister and Lex Eisenhardt at Sweelinck Conservatory
Amsterdam and of Ben Verdery at Yale University. Her performance credits
in the solo, chamber and concerto arenas are many, and include appearances
at the Concertgebouw and the Ijsbreker (Amsterdam) as well as at several
major festivals. Classical Guitar magazine (UK) once reported that her "explosive
account of the Usher Waltz very nearly did bring the house down". Let
this paint a picture of the passion and intense commitment in her playing
than can not be conveyed through an exhaustive list of concerts!
In addition to Z.o.o. guitar duo, Marion's collaboration with Shakuhachi Master Andrew Macgregor is worth special mention: following the enormous success of their first CD, a second is now in the works, and will again feature Marion's own arrangements of stunningly beautiful Japanese koto music for the guitar. Japanese music/storytelling was also central to a series of 30 schools concerts she recently presented in Almere. She has recorded for Move Records and Naxos. As a student of Timothy Kain, Peter Constant was "most outstanding graduate" of the Canberra School of Music, and subsequently a Master's graduate of Benjamin Verdery at Yale University. He is a recipient of the prestigious Harkness Fellowship, a Fellow of Trinity College of Music, London and a multiple winner in the Australian Guitar Competition. From 1993-98 Peter was full-time Lecturer in Guitar at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne. The breadth of Peter's experience is testament to his versatility and musicianship. He has given premiere performances of numerous works, a large number of which have been written especially for him. A unique solo programme of Australian and Brazilian music recently took him to England, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. As a founding member of the quartet Guitar Trek, Peter helped to pioneer their "guitar family" concept, taking it to major venues in Australia, throughout S.E. Asia and the D'addario Series in America. Peter has worked in film, television and radio, performed concertos by Ponce, Giuliani, Pollard and Vivaldi, appeared in a major outdoor performance of Henze's masterpiece El Cimarron and given recitals with such diverse artists such as Helen Noonan, Miwako Abe, Mardi McSullea, Lyndon Terracini and Jaap Schroeder. In addition to Z.o.o. guitar duo he is currently working on exciting new collaborations with Duo Contemporain and contemporary music ensemble Teyas, and will conduct the European Youth Guitar Ensemble in their 2001 season. >> Associated Links: |
