Miguel Moreno is one of the top leading specialists of historical plucked
string instruments. Co-founder of Glossa, he has before recorded with Teresa
Berganza for Philips and with Hespèrion XX for Astrée. Concerts,
masterclasses and conferences have taken him all over the world, including
America and Australia. With his Ensemble La Romanesca he has recorded two
CDs for Glossa. Recently (in 1998) he founded a new group, Orphénica
Lyra, which focuses on the Spanish repertoire of the Renaissance and Baroque.
His groundbreaking album for Glossa, The Spanish Guitar (1536-1836) is the best-seller of their label, with nearly 30,000 copies sold so far. With his wife, Lourdes Uncilla, Moreno is doing extensive research on the building of ancient instruments of the lute and guitar family, which can be heard brought into practice on all his recordings for Glossa. Recent discoveries include the use of the 'théorbe de pièces' for the solo repertoire in French Baroque. Glossa has just released three new CDs with José Miguel Moreno spotlighting his work on Spanish guitar. These new recordings, alongside the popular La Guitarra Española (1536-1836) and La Guitarra Española II (1818-1918), will be the starting point for a new collection on the Glossa label, which was recently unveiled. Featuring an elegant design, meticulously prepared and in-depth liner notes, as well as impeccable recordings, we aim to turn this edition into an essential reference for anyone who wants to know more about the fascinating, and to a great extent unexplored, world of the Spanish instrument par excellence. Moreno's new projects comprise, once again, the three most glorious centuries of Spain's musical past: the 16th century, with a recital of songs and solo pieces for vihuela and Renaissance guitar, featuring the excellent young soprano Nuria Rial, the 17th century, represented on this occasion by Gaspar Sanz's instrumental music, brought to life by the group Orphénica Lyra, and the 18th century, with the most "Spanish" of Boccherini's quintets as the basis for the first collaboration on disc between the two Moreno brothers, José Miguel and Emilio, founders of the Glossa label. The end of 2001 will see the release of Latin American flavoured releases in Moreno's The Spanish Guitar Project. >> Associated Links: |
