Amanda Handel
Amanda Handel is a freelance composer who lives at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. Her formal instrument of study is the piano in which she holds diplomas of performance and teaching and accreditation.
Amanda's related leisure involvements have included performing in Balkan and Flamenco groups on soprano saxophone, percussion, and as a dancer. Much of her music in the late 1990's was indirectly influenced by these "other" experiences. Currently she is completing postgraduate studies, exploring mandalas and other cyclical procedures in a compositional research project at the University of Western Sydney, where she also gives occasional guest lectures in contemporary musicology and works with piano performance students.

Amanda is a fully represented composer with AMC who has written a considerable amount of music including commissions by Ars Musica Australis and the 2002 Darwin International Guitar Festival. Her work has been given premiere and subsequent performances by the Sydney Guitar Trio, the ZOO Duo and the Song Company in Australia and abroad as well as by guitarist Carolyn Kidd in Canberra. Amanda's piano music has been recorded by Elizabeth Green, Jeanell Carrigan and Aaron McMillan and gets occasional broadcasts on radio ABC FM.
